Legendary Theories, Rules and the like

We all know that How I Met Your Mother has paid tribute to theories and rules concerning different aspects and situations. Let’s have a run down of them right here.

1. The Olive Theory

First off is the Olive Theory. We have heard of this theory all the way back from the pilot episode. Generally speaking, the olive theory says that opposite’s attract. It implies that there must be a balancing factor to a relationship. In this case, you must hate one thing that on the other hand, your partner loves. Now actually, there is some truth to this; because, it’s nearly impossible for a couple to agree on every single thing.

2. The Three Day Rule

Barney’s Three-Day Rule is next. According to the show, this applies when you’ve met someone new. It tells that you’ll only call/text him/her after three days, or else the one your calling/texting will think you’re desperate or moving too fast. Personally, I find this false in some way. Ted called her future wife right away, so it really depends on you.

3. The Hot-Crazy Scale

Probably the most popular to How I Met Your Mother fans is this. According to Barney, a girl is allowed to be crazy as long as she is equally hot. I have no comments here since I haven’t dated anyone crazy, and as much as possible, I don’t intend to.

4. The Mermaid Theory

Another popular theory from the show. This theory tells that a man will eventually like a woman or in the show’s case, will eventually sleep with a woman after a period of time, no matter how repulsive or disgusting her face is. I find this factual personally. I just don’t want to go there anymore.

5. The Cheerleader Effect

The Cheerleader Effect is the instance that a group of girls, for example, looks extremely hot while in a group, but as you look at them, individually and not as a group, they really aren’t that hot. This is also factual sometimes. I’ve come a across a party before where I saw this group of beautiful girls clamping up together. When one of them left the group and got some punch, I was so wrong.

6. The Platinum Rule

This rule is by far the most true. It states that a person should never date someone they see on a regular basis. Of course there are exceptions to this such as love at first sight maybe which ends up with a friendship and then a relationship. I think this applies in long time friendships. Wouldn’t it be awkward if you date your best friend for example and then break up? This is why the Platinum Rule should be observed at times, but if you love the the person so much then go ahead. Don’t listen to me. I’m just some guy who does text posts to pass his time.

7. The Date-Time Continuum Rule

This rules states that you should never make plans with a person further in the future than the amount of time you’ve been going out. This is rather sensible. For example, it’s irresponsible to plan a summer getaway in December if the two of you have been going out for maybe a month.

Well, that’s it. I missed a few I think, but there’s always a next time. Everything written here is my opinion except for the definition of the rules and theories itself. Photo credits to Barney’s blog and the internet.
