The Son of Neptune

He’s back. Everybody’s favorite demigod is back yet again to save the world from an impending doom. It’s been a while since we’ve last heard from Percy Jackson. Last time I’ve read about him was in The Last Olympian and that felt like years ago.
The Son of Neptune is the second installment to the new Heroes of Olympus series which is the sequel to the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Through the first book, we’ve been introduced to the aftermath of the war that happened in The Last Olympian. To those who don’t know, a prophecy was mentioned there at the end, and the prophecy is continued through this new series.
I’ve done a sort of review on the first book a year ago. You could read it here. Don’t mind my grammar please. Though it was only a year ago, I incredibly sucked at it, even now.
Before I go back, this is a spoiler free review, so you don’t need to worry.
Rick Riordan has done it once again. Truly, fans of the series would not be disappointed with this new installment. Riordan’s writing is as action packed and breathtaking as before, and along with his improving craft, new characters, vital to the story, are introduced, but that’s not the wonder this book has. What makes this book so amazing is its coherency with the entire series, from The Lightning Thief all the way up to the The Lost Hero.
Riordan’s also improving in terms of writing dialogue. I don’t know if it’s just me, but the lines in this book seriously is noteworthy. There are deep lines that you’d love to quote and there are lines that would have you laughing.
All in all, it’s a recommend to read to those who’ve read from the beginning. Readers are introduced to a new kind of magic full of thrills, romance and awesome mythology. You’re sure to be drawn to the world of Percy Jackson soon enough.
The downside though is waiting for the next book coming next year. That extremely sucks.
